R&D Engineer

To support the growth of our R&D team in Ghent, Belgium, we are looking for a talented and driven R&D Engineer with a strong desire to work in a practical, lab-based environment. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of our groundbreaking therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) solution and to play a key part in its transition to real-world clinical applications:

  • Support the development and optimization of microfluidic processes using our in-house platforms
  • Build engineering prototypes and execute process testing, including setting up experiments, monitoring results, and collecting data
  • Conduct feasibility studies as part of assay development
  • Prepare technical documentation, test reports, and procedures according to internal and regulatory standards
  • Support lab operations, including setup maintenance, test planning, and sample handling
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, quality, and product development
  • Contribute to mechanical design or prototyping tasks to improve the in-field reliability and applicability of Axithra’s innovative platform (e.g. CAD modelling, 3D printing)
  • Interface between multiple external development partners to facilitate effective, agile, product development
 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical/Process Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant hands-on experience in laboratory or experimental settings within an early-stage incubation/startup company
  • Proven attention to detail and a methodical approach to experimental work
  • Clear and effective communication skills, particularly in technical documentation
  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt to a variety of tasks within an R&D environment
  • Familiarity with microfluidics, fluid dynamics, or lab-on-a-chip systems developed under regulatory frameworks (e.g. ISO 13485) is an advantage
  • Experience with CAD tools, 3D printing, or basic mechanical assembly is considered a plus
